I have been in Africa for about 6 hours and I still don’t
think it has really hit me that I am no longer home. I sure it will take time and some exploring before I am able to take in the magnitude of leaving the country for the first time and for being on my own for the most part. The plane ride went smoothly, slept through most of
it, however I did wake in time to witness my first African sunrise, I dont have the words to explain how exciting that moment was... I wish I had my camera out but I will be sure to start taking picture tomorrow.
When I arrived in South Africa, I thought I had spotted the other students
from Pitzer, however it wasn’t until I saw them struggling at the passport
check that I thought I would step in.
I found great comfort it hearing how little the others knew about was
going on, but on second thought that is not a good sign. I guess we shall learn together, that is if that chose to let me into what seems like the boys club. They were kind of closed off to my “help” at the airport and when I tried to talk to them the conversation was short lived a dry. BUT it's only the
first day, so I will remain positive. There is a sixth student joining us for
the first month, she has yet to arrive, she missed her flight in Washington ( who does that make me think of ???). I am actually glad to have another female around, I was worried that I was going to become the odd woman out in king's sweet. Oh I forgot to mention Pitzer has put us up in a very nice hotel for the first 6 days with freedom to "charge to the room," I guess they will let us live it up before sending us into the bush. I’m very excited to start and we seem to
have a jam packed week, but I’m glad I finally have some kind of outline.
That’s all for now, it’s been a wild day and I need to rest.
